At the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, we are completing a multi-modal study on the longitudinal effects of deep brain stimulation on brain synaptic changes in a minipig model of Parkinson's disease.

In parallel, we collected fecal samples from the minipigs to determine if the induction of the Parkinson’s disease model or the brain stimulation therapy contributed to changes in microbiome diversity. We relied heavily on the experience of Louise at Biomcare for help and advice on setting up the project and storing the samples. After the rapid analysis at Biomcare, Louise provided extensive data analysis and insightful interpretation.

She was clear and helpful and also provided a re-analysis of the data, taking different factors into account. We are looking forward to progressing further with this project and to working with Louise again in the future.

We have had the pleasure of working with Biomcare for the past four years on a variety of soil research projects, gaining new insights into the complexity of the soil microbiome. Throughout our collaboration, we have been highly satisfied with the quality of service provided by Louise Thingholm and her team, who consistently show a strong commitment to advancing the science of soil microbiology. They are highly skilled in bioinformatics and statistical analysis and possess a deep understanding of complex data, particularly in evaluating microbial community composition. Their comprehensive and visually intuitive methods, such as ordination plots and heatmaps, have made complex data easy for us to interpret. Reports are always presented and explained in person, ensuring clarity and accessibility. Thanks to Biomcare’s assistance, we were able to confidently assess the effects of e.g. treatments, time, and field conditions on the microbiome. For instance, they confirmed that our treatments introduced consistent changes, and highlighted significant differences in specific bacterial species, and provided year-to-year insights. Their analysis also included essential biodiversity measures, such as alpha-diversity and fungal percentage. Biomcare’s advanced expertise and user-friendly analytical approach have significantly enriched our microbiome research. We highly recommend them to anyone seeking high-quality DNA sequencing and data interpretation.

Projects include among others:

  • “The field microbial communities” (Markens mikrobielle samfund), 2021-2024 – investigation of the soil microbial communities and functions in 100 organic and conventional fields.
  • “The field motor” (Markens motor), 2024- investigation of 100 fields with different cultivation practices.
  • “Get control of the soil carbon” (Få styr på kulstoffet i jorden), 2022-2024 – organic field trials with addition of different compost materials and biochar – effect on soil microbial communities
  • “Regenerative farming for development of organic plant production” (Regenerativt landbrug til videreudvikling af den økologiske planteproduktion), 2023-2024  – field evaluation at five demonstration farms
  • “Compost - recycled nutrients and carbon for soil and crops” (Kompost - recirkuleret næring og kulstof til jord og afgrøder), 2021-2023, evaluation of compost addition, including year-to-year effects, at three different field sites.

We used BiomCare to analyse faecal samples collected in a project assessing the role of diet in the development of the infant gut microbiota in Peru.

We felt supported throughout the project by BiomCare, with Louise and the team going above and beyond to assist with any queries. We were provided with regular updates on the status of our analysis and all communications were clear and timely.

The data was presented within accessible reports, making the results easy to interpret. We would strongly recommend BiomCare for any microbiome analysis.

Working with Dr. Louise Thingholm and Biomcare on our study of the relationships between iron and the gut microbiome has been a great experience. Louise brought unparalleled expertise in the analysis and interpretation of the microbiome data, guiding us through the complexities along each step.

Her user-friendly visualizations and clear interpretations allowed us to communicate our findings effectively to both scientific audiences and stakeholders. Moreover, her responsiveness and collaborative approach made the whole process seamless, addressing challenges promptly and adapting to the unique needs of our study.

Thanks to her support, we were able to meet project deadlines and significantly enhance the quality of our research. I would work with her again in the future, and highly recommend Biomcare to anyone seeking expert assistance in microbiome data analysis.

We used Biomcare to analyse the occurrence and composition of bacteria and fungi in soil samples, in a project evaluating soil fertility and the effect of tilling.

BIOMCARE was involved from study design, over shipment, sequencing, data analysis and interpretation.

The results were presented in easily understandable and illustrative reports, and by personal communication, and all communication went swiftly.

I can highly recommend BIOMCARE for their expertise.
