Scientific Leadership
Louise Bruun Thingholm
Ph.D. Bioinformatics
Founder & Chief Scientific Officer, Biomcare
Profile
With more than a decade of experience in bioinformatics and microbiome analysis, I lead Biomcare's scientific direction at the intersection of microbiology, data science, and applied research. My work focuses on understanding complex microbial ecosystems across human, animal, and environmental systems, and on translating microbiome data into biologically meaningful, decision-ready insight.
At Biomcare, I work closely with our scientific team of bioinformaticians, biostatisticians, and domain specialists. Together, we design and execute analyses that integrate experimental design, biological context, and advanced statistics, ensuring robust interpretation of complex microbiome datasets across research and applied projects.
I earned my Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from Kiel University (Germany), where my research focused on host–microbiome interactions in the context of obesity and type 2 diabetes. I subsequently pursued postdoctoral research that further strengthened my expertise in microbial ecosystems and complex biological data integration. My work has been published in leading journals including Nature Genetics, Cell Host & Microbe, and Gut.
Since co-founding Biomcare in 2017, I have worked with academic groups, R&D teams, and industry partners to move microbiome science from exploration to application. As Chief Scientific Officer, I am responsible for Biomcare's scientific strategy, research and development, analytical frameworks, and close collaboration with clients on complex, data-driven projects. My role is to ensure that Biomcare consistently delivers scientifically sound, transparent, and actionable insight.
Scientific review and quality assurance
While Biomcare's scientific direction is led by Louise Bruun Thingholm, our work is supported by a broader team with expertise in bioinformatics, biostatistics, molecular biology, and microbiome science. Relevant content and scientific communication are reviewed internally to support accuracy, clarity, and methodological integrity.
